You Can Interact with the Monkeys

Science and Education Are a Big Part of Who We Are

Science and education have been a part of Monkey Jungle since Joseph DuMond founded it in the 1930s when he released six Java monkeys into the dense subtropical forest near Miami. From that beginning, Monkey Jungle has been a part of an archaeological dig in 1994 that unearthed fossils and bones from the American lion, the dire wolf, and the Pleistocene horse and camel. Continuing this legacy, Monkey Jungle also partners with the DuMond Conservancy, which strives to engage scientists, students, and the public in the understanding and stewardship of nonhuman primates and their tropical forest habitats.
